Santa Cruz Island
There are so many amazing places on our planet. Each site is unique, each city in the world, and landscape, and lake or sea or river. But there is nothing like home, and for me, the Galápagos Islands are home. This is the place where I am familiar to most creatures, including human beings… and today we visited the largest inhabited island in the Galápagos, where I have most of my friends, and where many of my personal projects have been conceived. This is where I feel that there is real hope for a harmonious balance on our planet. This is Santa Cruz Island, with approximately 15,000 people and 5,000 giant tortoises, with amazing and successful conservation programs for both land iguanas and tortoises, with endemic and giant Scalesias in the lush highlands, decorated with epiphytes such as orchids and different kinds of ferns.
I am happy to be back home, to be back on Santa Cruz Island.
