Española Island

We woke up today with the early rays of the Galápagos sunrise. In front of us we had the beautiful panorama of Española Island. Many marine bird species decorate this island with their colors like the bright blue-footed boobies and their peculiar coloration. We disembarked at a point called Punta Suarez. During the walk around this place we observed many animal species. Impressive reptiles like the marine iguanas and marine mammals like the Galápagos sea lions were covering the beach with their big colonies. After we took many pictures of iguanas and sea lions we headed deeper into the island following the path with the hope to see the waved albatross. We are in the middle of the nesting season of these elegant birds; we could observe a good number of them incubating. Albatross incubate a single egg for about 60 days. So far, this year has been a good one for albatross in Galápagos. Many of them are seen incubating patiently.

In the afternoon we practiced several water activities in Gardner Bay, Glass bottom boat outings, kayaking, and snorkeling. After all of these activities our guests ended up on the beach where they had the chance to observe some juveniles and baby sea lions at a close range. Some of our youngest guests this week were amazed to realize how friendly juvenile sea lions can be. Some guests had the thrill to swim with them in the clear turquoise waters of this stunning beach. At sunset we all came back on board with great memories about this unique paradise in the middle of the Pacific.
