Tracy Arm

Early this morning, we arrived to misty clouds which hovered over the towering granite peaks of Tracy Arm – Fords Terror Wilderness. The National Geographic Sea Bird made its way down the 22 mile Tracy Arm and the clouds lifted to show one of the most scenic fjords in Southeast Alaska. The icebergs progressively grew in size and intensity of blue as we approached the end of the fjord at South Sawyer Glacier. The clouds parted to a perfectly sunny day as harbor seals floated on icebergs surrounding our ship. As the crew launched our Zodiacs to explore the bay, the first of many thundering crashes of calving glacial ice echoed off the granite walls. The Zodiacs allowed us to get close and personal to this active tidewater glacier and its cobalt blue icebergs. After several hours of exploring the bay, we cruised south to the placid waters of Williams Cove where we kayaked up to waterfalls and learned about the temperate rainforest on a guided naturalist hike. We finished a perfect day with a happy hour presentation and an exquisite Alaskan halibut dinner.
