Pond Island & Basket Bay
The tranquility of daybreak washes over us like a wave as we collectively greet the rising sun. A perfect backdrop to begin our sun salutations during the morning stretch class on board the National Geographic Sea Bird. Taking full advantage of the spectacular view off the bow, we incorporated a mindful walk around deck. Our bodies feel energized and our hearts light as we look off from our anchorage to our destination, Pond Island. With the sun in full view, this promises to be a delightful day. We make our way by Zodiac and are welcomed ashore by a beautiful array of brightly colored star fish. Their color and texture bare a striking resemblance to a platter of prepared, boxed macaroni and cheese, as described by our 3rd Mate. As we continue toward our destination to the beaver dam, we trek through the mud, entirely thankful for our boots. Children wear blueberry stained smiles as they feast on the abundant supply of berries along our path. Following our walk, conditions are optimal for even the first time kayakers to take full advantage of the seventy-five degree air and glass like water, to try their luck at a paddle. The afternoon is spent by many basking in the sun on deck while others take the opportunity for a rejuvenating Wellness Treatment. Arriving at Basket Bay, a small cove along Chichagof Island, the late afternoon is spent exploring the mystifying caves of the Grotto by Zodiac. In full completion of an absolutely spectacular day we head north, sailing off into the sunset.
