Santa Cruz Island

Polaris completed the second longest passage of the week under good conditions, normal current, gentle seas and no garua (a fog common this time of year). Passengers were enjoying the same conditions with Isabel, the wonderful spa therapist. It promised to be a busy day for everyone in Puerto Ayora.

We visited the Giant Tortoise Rearing Centre to witness the new little hatchlings taking in sun. We were introduced to Lonesome George as well. We then explored the main street with its diversity of businesses for all tastes, stopping at the fish dock to watch locals buying the catch of the day for lunch. Brown Pelicans and Great Blue Herons were there as well for their lunch.

We took to the hills by mid-day to eat at Anita and Tim’s and enjoyed the swimming pool and some refreshing beer. After lunch we went to see wild giant tortoises, cattle egrets and the Vermilion flycatcher.

Today was filled with plenty of walking and sightseeing. Tonight we will dance the night away to live music!
