Española Island
Today we began with one of the most fascinating visits for me, Española Island. With mostly a nice blue sky, the groups of photographers started very early in the morning. Our outing occurred in one of most unique places in Galápagos, Punta Suarez. As soon as we landed, the sea lions together with the marine iguanas formed the welcome committee. Soon the colonies of birds started to appear everywhere, such as the Nazca Boobies, blue-footed boobies, swallow tail gulls, and at the very end of the trail, the biggest of the sea birds found in Galápagos, the waved albatross! This majestic and graceful glider possesses a wingspan of 2.35m. Our guests had a lot of fun taking hundreds of pictures with their big lenses and cameras that they have brought for this special photo expedition week. The sun was getting higher in the sky and it looked splendorous and brighter that ever. Unfortunately, the temperature started to increase as well, so we decided that it was time to return to the ship for some refreshments. After all we are on the equator, and you can only stay out a certain amount of time under its relentless sun.
The good news was that the day was not over, and we had the whole afternoon full of activities ahead of us. For the afternoon some of our guests enjoyed the kayaking option, the glass bottom boat outings and snorkeling as well. By the end of the day we had the beach all for ourselves and enjoyed the freedom of exploring the sea lions colonies.
As soon as we were done with our exploration, we returned to the Polaris to recover our energy for the next day. This is what we call the end of another successful day in paradise.
