Floreana was a great island to visit with our family voyage, as the beach offers an opportunity to relax, swim snorkel and play without any risk to the fragile environment. The beach is made up of inorganic sand, and is known as the Galapagos green beach due to its very high content of olivine. It is lined by typical coastal zone vegetation such as the saltbush and the black mangrove, and is often frequented by shore birds and sea lions. Our younger guests were having a wild time in the surf, when a young sea lion pup came to check out what he was missing out on! We really have to wonder sometimes, during the time we spend in this enchanted place, exactly who is watching whom?!
