What a beautiful day that we had on the western part of the archipelago: we started with an early morning cruise around Roca Redonda, where we have one of the largest seabird colonies. This is the richest and coolest area of the archipelago because of the influence of the Cromwell Undercurrent that produces upwellings along the western edge of the undersea platform.

Later on in the morning we had a Zodiac ride along Punta Vicente Roca on Isabela Island, which really was quite an experience, something unforgettable, as we saw whales, Manta ray, ocean sunfish and dolphins. We must of course add to all this the beautiful scenery of the volcanoes with very high cliff formations.

We ended up by visiting Fernandina Island, which is the youngest and also one of the largest completely pristine islands in the world, where we enjoyed walking through the herds of marine iguanas, as well as a Zodiac cruise among penguins and flightless cormorants. These are two of the six endemic seabirds of the archipelago. After an exciting day, we traveled back to the ship with a beautiful sunset to accompany us.
