Sally Lightfoot crabs have a special attraction for the skin of marine iguanas. The reason is not beauty, but rather the continuous peeling of these animals.
After the iguanas dive deep in the cold October waters to feed, exposure to the sun for many hours afterwards helps them return to their basal temperature. The bad news is that UV radiation destroys the skin cells one by one, and hence the iguanas are always shedding... a real feast for the Sally Lightfoot crabs.
