Walking into the earth, looking for its deepest secrets inside a lava tunnel in the Galapagos Islands.
For the very first second it is all dark. After a while, our eyes get used to the little amount of light and we see. We discover the thick basaltic walls, the lava that ran down hill in the past, at high speeds and at very high temperatures.
We are on a relatively old island. The flow must be at least a million years old. Vegetation covers the surface today, therefore it is amazing that someone could discover such a hole on the ground. But an Ecuadorian farmer found it a few years ago in his land. He was walking along his cattle farm, and accidentally discovered the tunnel. Today he shares this earth treasure with us, together with the tortoises and watermelons that live and grow in his farm.
