Española Island
This paradisiacal island was at its best today. The beautiful landscapes this island has were perfect settings for the wonderful sightings we all enjoyed. Big groups of marine iguanas lying on the ground and playful sea lions made a welcoming committee as we disembarked.
Marine birds were especially great today. Many boobies, blue footed and Nazca, are breeding. Booby chicks are truly adorable. The little birds look like puffy cotton balls. Needless to say, these cute chicks were one of the favourites among so many wonderful sightings. Very close to the boobies in popularity were the waved albatrosses. These majestic birds were admired doing many different activities. Some albatrosses were performing their amusing and spectacular courtship. Some others were taking off from the cliffs. For many of us, including me, the highlight was an albatross chick that was in the middle of the trail. The fluffy little bird looked like a puppet in rags. It was totally indifferent to our presence. It was amazing to observe it at such close range. Just take a look to the picture of today. What a cute little fellow!
