Bartolome & James Island

Early in the morning, we started our day observing an amazing sunrise from the Polaris. By six thirty, we were already gathering in the reception area, ready to disembark and hit the trail that would direct us to the summit of Bartolome Island. I always said that visiting a place like Bartolome would help you to understand why this archipelago was once upon a time nicknamed “The Enchanted Islands.” The view was simply astonishing! The beauty between the contrasts of the green bushes against the lava flows was only surpassed by the beauty of the sparkling golden beach. After swimming and snorkeling, we returned back on board to hit our next destination, James Island.

James Island is famous for being part of the human history of the Galápagos. It was back in the 60’s when a group of people brought by a guy called Hector Egas settled on the island and established a salt mine company at the base of the main volcanic crater of the island. As we were walking along the beach, we could observe the intense red color of the sally light-foot crabs and the contrast between the volcanic ash and the aqua blue water of the ocean.

We all felt very fortunate to have experienced this magnificent island. The tameness of the wildlife, the equatorial sun, the beauty of nature and of course the new friends, which whom we are sharing it all with.

Today it is our last day, and even though we are leaving the Galápagos soon, we are all sure that the Galápagos will never leave you…
