Isabela and Fernandina Islands

Because the Galápagos Islands are surrounded by thousands of miles of open water, marine life has a prominent place in the kind of fauna found on the islands.

Galápagos is in the middle of the planet. In this area many different marine currents converge: warm waters from Central America, cold waters from coastal Peru, and besides these, there is an under current called the South Equatorial counter current, which creates an upwelling in the western part of the archipelago, bringing up a lot of nutrients to the surface.

On land unusual reptiles dominate the animal scene. In the water or ocean, mysterious creatures can only be seen when they come to the surface to breathe. We have a fairly significant population of east Pacific green marine turtle, the only resident species in the islands.

For sure, Galápagos is one of the biggest natural aquariums in the planet. The life that exists in it fascinates many biologists and divers. There is no way when going for a snorkel or dive to not find amazing animals wandering around looking for good algae, or a yummy smaller creature to eat.
