Do you suppose that Lewis & Clark would have believed how renowned The Corps of Discovery and their expedition would turn out to be? After 200 years, multitudes of people would continue to trace sections of their historic route. Nearly a week ago we set out on our own journey; traveling nearly 1000 miles, retracing the steps, paths, and waterways of these great explorers.

An expedition that was so important that today, as we visited Fort Clatsop National Historic Park, we saw the progress of the recreation of the replica of the fort. The second replica (the first one burned down in a accident last fall) represents the commitment of the National Park Service to honor the 1805-06 winter home for the Corps.

We have traveled east on the Columbia River, and further on the Snake River to Clarkston and Lewiston, named for the famous Captains; we’ve sailed to the bar of the Columbia River, the graveyard of the Pacific. Although we may have chosen to follow in the path of Lewis and Clark for many different reasons, together we have come to understand the magnitude of the journey, and what an incredible accomplishment this great expedition was.
