At Sea - Sailing toward Antigua

After a beautiful day hiking and swimming on Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands yesterday, today we headed back toward Antigua on our last full day. We set the sails at about 8:00am and we able to bring out most of our sails by day’s end. In the morning we entertained ourselves with an informative film entitled The Last of the Windjammers, about recovery and restoration of ships from the Age of Sail. There was a Stem to Stern tour of the ship by Tom O’Brien for those wanting to understand the complexities of the sheets and sails of the square rigger. Many folks were diligent in their study of the rigging and it seemed that many were getting a clear sense of the workings of the ship. Very impressive!

The afternoon brought serious relaxation, reading and packing while the ship sailed along at a 6-7 knot clip. Anika, the expedition videographer showed a preview of the DVD she produced of our journey. Many of the guests were pleased to find themselves the stars of the show. Sails were doused at 5:00pm and Helen led a session in chair stretching in preparation for a long day in airplanes and airports tomorrow.

The evening found us enjoying the Captain’s Farewell Cocktail and a delicious 5 course dinner featuring lobster bought in Tobago a few days earlier.
