At 6:30 this morning our ship was threading her way into a beautiful, narrow inlet called Red Bluff Bay. Steep, spruce-covered hills dropped right down to the water, and salmon jumped all around us. At the bay's end the ship stopped and we silently observed two brown bears and three dozen bald eagles at the river's mouth. The ship repositioned slightly and we nosed up within a few meters of this spectacular waterfall. Coffee cups in hand, we stood on the bow quietly watching bears, eagles, salmon and waterfall. It was a peaceful wilderness welcome to Southeast Alaska.
