LeConte Bay and Petersburg

There are multiple highlights for every day in Alaska. In addition to the sunny, almost hot, weather, this afternoon's walk in the muskeg of Petersburg Creek was a botanical delight of wildflowers, mosses and carnivorous sundews. The latter are plants that trap small insects and get nutrients that are not readily available in the waterlogged, acidic bog.

A number of people had wonderful views flightseeing over Le Conte Glacier, and over the ice-filled bay. We experienced a different perspective cruising in Zodiacs among those same icebergs earlier today. Being within a stone's throw of such massive pieces of ice was thrilling. Several icebergs cracked apart under the pressure of the outgoing tide, and rolled over. The light was just right for amazingly blue pictures of the icebergs.
