Tracy Arm, Sawyer and South Sawyer Glaciers

Today we spent the entire day exploring one of the most pristine places in all of Southeast Alaska, Tracy Arm fjord. It was a day that made us think about the past, while soaking in the present and wondering about the future. A story was told today, not by one of the many naturalists onboard, but by the extreme beauty surrounding each of us. The history was apparent from the carvings of the receding glacier, which over many years, made the path that we followed today.

We boarded the Zodiacs to explore the region of the arm near South Sawyer glacier. One could not help but marvel at numerous waterfalls, the steep walls of the fjord, the many harbor seals, or the lovely weather that today had provided us. We took numerous photos, trying to catch a way to remember these fabulous sites. How impressive.

It was a magical beginning to the week of our exploration of Alaska’s coastal wilderness. Today is somewhere we will look back upon to remember; with its inspiring and untouched beauty Tracy Arm was a delight.
