In spite of unusual fog that hung around, drifting in and out much of the day, most of us were treated to a mother gray whale spyhopping with her calf at her side. The morning group had the adventure of coming back for an "instrument landing" with radar and GPS units in a blanket of thick fog. In the afternoon the only thing that made us return to the ship was the coming of sunset. Even guests who had stayed on board were treated with sightings of gray whales within 75 meters of the ship.

Our hiking group turned up a number of new bird species, saw a tiny crab tossing mud balls from its holes and found a variety of interesting shells. A mariachi band played and a fiesta took place on board the Sea Lion. The day ended with the total eclipse of the moon.
