Isla Santa Catalina

Sunrise and sunset were the bookends of our day today, moreso than on most. We began activities (optional of course) before sunrise on the east side of Isla Carmen. Those who wished to were whisked ashore by Zodiac in order to position themselves for a sunrise photo shot, nicely framed by the desert vegetation. Later, after breakfast on board the Sea Voyager, we returned to Isla Carmen for long, short, fast and slow hikes in Arroyo Rojo (Red Canyon). A cool breeze blew down the arroyo and the early morning sun offered many pockets of shade along our hiking routes.

During and after lunch we cruised further east to Isla Catalina. The hottest part of the day we spent in the water or on the beach, very close to the water. Many guests went for a snorkel or SCUBA dive to view the sea life clustered around the point at the end of the beach. Sunset found all of us on the beach of Isla Catalina, facing west, enjoying a delicious barbecue prepared by the galley staff, listening to stories and songs, and feeling like we had just lived a day in the life of a nice book from our library shelves.
