Isla San Jose, Isla San Francisco and Los Islotes, Baja California

A rare sight greeted us at sunrise – a cloudy sky! The clouds served to make the sunrise even more dramatic, the sky awash in shades of pastel. It is our last day of an extraordinary adventure, where the stark beauty of the desert meets the rich bounty of the seas. We have had the privilege of riding Zodiacs among the leviathans of the deep, snorkeling and kayaking over mirror flat waters and exploring many of the dramatic islands found in the Sea of Cortes.

This day follows the same pattern – we cruised by the red cliffs of Punta Colorado at sunrise on Isla San Jose, then spent the rest of the morning hiking, kayaking, snorkeling and scuba diving at Isla San Francisco in a beautiful half moon shaped bay, appropriately named Half Moon Bay. During lunch we lifted anchor and sailed south towards Los Islotes, the final outing of our adventure, where we snorkeled with sea lions. The cacophony of sea lions barking, the sight of baby sea lion pups on the rocks, of ourselves snorkeling next to these graceful creatures - what a way to end a trip.

What a day, oh, what a week!
