Corcovado National Park

Torrential rain would not allow us to immediately disembark the Sea Voyager at San Pedrillo, the station at Corcovado National Park. After seventeen millimeters of rain in an hour, the rain stopped and the sun was clear. The essence of a rainforest was portrayed in front of our eyes: plentiful water and heavy sun radiation are the supplies and the energy for the massive production of leaves and recycling of the biomass resulting in a lush evergreen environment.

Upon arrival the scarlet macaws circled our sky in an almost arrogant display of color and beauty. They were the hosts introducing us to the green temple of wildlife. We went in different directions looking for animals, but all of us agree that we experienced the most intense and mystic forest. The natural history interpretation and the walking adventure ended in swimming in a clear fresh water river for some of us. The long walk found the mantled howler monkeys at the end of their walk, as if they had been waiting for us.

The crew and galley prepared a wonderful lunch ashore after the ship was repositioned and the afternoon was filled with relaxation and horseback riding. We finished the day with a long walk along the coast and an evening visit to a local bar at Drake Bay.
