Golfo Dulce, Costa Rica

After the past three intense days of activities it was nice not having a wake up call this morning. We had breakfast and then boarded the Zodiacs which took us to Casa Orquideas (The Orchid House), a fantastic botanical garden which Ron and Trudy Macallister, an American couple who settled some 26 years ago in Costa Rica, planted on an abandoned cacao plantation. We walked through the well kept trails with our naturalists looking for birds or learning about the huge collection of tropical plants.

Back on the ship, we had a taco bar for lunch and mudslide cookies with ice cream for desert. The treats were enhanced by the sudden and unexpected appearance of pantropical spotted dolphins that approached our ship right next to the dinning room windows. In the tropical heat of Golfo Dulce a short siesta was the best way to make of our lunch a complete experience.

Ricardo gave us a presentation on the geological history of Central America and then we went again on to explore the mangroves on Zodiacs or kayaks or walked through a dirt road looking for birds. As the day came to its closure grey clouds started to appear and a soothing rain fell upon us as the last rays of the sun gave us a rainbow to make this day an unforgettable experience.
