Río Esquinas & Casa Orquideas, Golfo Dulce
Morning found us sailing into the inner side of Golfo Dulce. After a hearty breakfast we began our exploration of the mangroves of Río Esquinas Wildlife refuge. Some of us chose to discover through the green waters using kayaks, since we were able to go deep inside in the small waterways. The sensations of freedom and the overwhelming forest ahead of us were simply spectacular.
The green, lush mountains crowning the slopes stimulated our joy for nature. Some other guests explored using Zodiacs; for them, the experience was intense in terms of the amount of birds they saw and the wildlife in general. Some impressive species that they were able to see included: white ibis, snowy egrets, a few rainbow boas and many other animals constituting the highlights of our outing.
After a cool, refreshing swim from the stern in early afternoon and lunch, the Sea Voyager repositioned close to Casa Orquideas. All of our guests were able to experience the amazing gardens and after walking its trails discovering birds and bats (among others) we came back to begin our journey into Panamanian waters. As we left the rainforest of Costa Rica behind we were impressed with the tropical storm that maintained these impressive forests a life. Like saying goodbye to Costa Rica, the mountains of Golfo Dulce and the whole peninsula were displaying a myriad of different colors. Toward the west the sun was setting like a golden pearl beyond the eternal forest.
