The last day of our voyage we spent on the small and idyllic island of Hvar. The tiny harbor town of the same name as the island invited us with its colorful cafes, fragrance of lavender in the air, and sparkling sunshine in the clear blue water. We strolled along the waterfront visiting the Franciscan Monastery with its aged gardens and impressive artistic treasures. The relaxing atmosphere of the town tempted us into settling into one of the many cafes offering shade under the colorful umbrellas along the “placja.” For those seeking exercise, a hike up to the citadel above was the perfect option, and gave great views of the town below.

Light southwesterly winds gave us another great afternoon sail, so we could all relax and digest our extra portions of Sea Cloud’s signature parmesan pasta wheel lunch. As an added bonus, our shipmate and guest Cherif Bassiouni, former assistant Secretary General of the United Nations, shared some of his experiences and involvement with The Hague War Tribunals and other international affairs, as well as his profound philosophies. In the late afternoon sun we enjoyed our cocktails exquisitely prepared by our master barkeepers Bebot and Theresa, chatting and reflecting on our experiences of the last ten days. This continued well into the night after the viewing of the guest slideshow, showing different perspectives from all of our shipmates. It’s fun to see how we all take the same voyage, yet see it through very different eyes.
