Today we visited the west coast of Isabela Island. Our first outing was Urbina Bay, an uplifted terrain where a green forest has created the right conditions for land iguanas and tortoises to nest. We walked a trail through the dense, spiny vegetation where land iguanas feed and reproduce. We found a couple that were displaying for each other close to a big nest, shaking their heads and moving around in circles. In this very same place we also encountered the giant tortoises of Alcedo volcano, who passed next to us, following the open trail.
On our way back to the ship we encountered dolphins! They were jumping far out from the water and fishing in a small pod. We had the chance to see them very close up, as they came near our Zodiacs to race us!
