This morning we woke up to a beautiful day exploring one of the majestic arms of Kelp Bay on Baranof Island here in Southeast Alaska. We offered a number of activities, including a long and hardy one-way kayak that covered about five miles of paddling to a destination beach at the end of Kelp Bay. A number of hikes were also offered, including a bushwhack through the unexplored forest in this area. We stumbled upon two brown bears fishing at the mouth of the creek next to our beach landing and spent time admiring this incredible sight.

In the afternoon, we cruised out of Kelp Bay and into Chatham Strait where we spotted several humpback whales, including one whale that breached for nearly an entire hour. We were able to get excellent looks at the breaching humpback, just in time for Alaska Whale Foundation’s Dr. Andy Szabo’s presentation on humpback whales in the lounge. It was another amazing day in Alaska!
