We started our day in LeConte Bay with sunshine and icebergs. Using our nimble Zodiacs, we crossed the terminal moraine of the bay and went in search of beauteous ice. Our admiration for water changed slightly in the afternoon as thunder echoed through Petersburg and a light rain started to fall. The day continued to change and before sunset the skies were once again clear. Our activities of biking, hiking, flightseeing and general exploration of Petersburg were filled with discoveries and a justification for packing all that rain gear. Here are some reflections from our week together by some of our Global Explorers.
Awesome and cool
Lovely and beautiful
A place to love
Snowy and cold
Knows and shows a lot
And you should visit Alaska.
—Harper, age 10
Arctic polar bears slipping from iceberg to iceberg
Near is a group of Steller sea lions resting on a rock
In a cave nearby is a brown bear resting
Mammals like the mountain goat, climbing up a hill
A bald eagle soaring through the sky
Lonely humpback looking for a mate
Sea otters and so much more!
