This morning the National Geographic Sea Bird sailed south as we approached Los Islotes. This set of volcanic rocks is the southernmost breeding colony of California sea lions. The wind was blowing from the southwest; which is typical of this time of the year. The weather conditions were favorable to find a lee from the wind and explore these magnificent rocks. The north side of Los Islotes is an excellent place to snorkel and to cruise aboard our Zodiacs. Adventurous aquanauts geared up and submerged themselves into the sea lion’s realm. We had amazing experiences with the playful and intelligent creatures, who seemed very excited to have us visit.

The National Geographic Sea Bird raised the hook and headed south towards Bahia Bonanza. This long sandy beach is facing the east side of Isla Espiritu Santo. Here we enjoyed the clear waters for swimming and kayaking. We even had some improvised Zodiac cruises to take a close look at a group of bottlenose dolphins that showed up after anchoring. Different hiking groups took off to explore this magnificent island. For some, a relaxing moment walking along the beach was the perfect farewell to the beautiful Gulf of California.
