Wow! What a spot. Great planning and good conditions allowed us to enjoy this jewel in the Southern Ocean. We made two relatively easy landings with great conditions onshore. It was an incredible day. With beaches covered in southern elephant seals, king penguins, and royal penguins, smiles were permanently glued to our faces all day.

Sandy Bay is the only beach in the world where non-researchers can hang out with royal penguins. Tens of thousands were here today. We mimicked them by hanging on the beach and climbing up to the colony where they are nesting. We were greeted by incredible noise and a bit of odor, but more importantly, adults taking care of super cute chicks. What a perfect day!
