In the two hours since we had cast our lines from Longyearbyen today we had already encountered three blue whales, a fin whale and minke whale. This set the tone for our incredible fauna encounters for the next 24 hours, which included reindeer, polar bear and thousands of nesting Brunnich’s guillemots and kittiwakes on and around the impressive Ossian sea cliffs, which are named after the famous Norwegian zoologist and explorer Georg Ossian Sars.
