The Pacaya River provided us today a magnificent display of wildlife. A troop of squirrel monkeys combined with brown Capuchin monkeys to give us one of the first surprises of the day. Our journey was enhanced by one of the most iconic activities of the week: a breakfast inside the jungle. The calling of different birds were heard from all over the area we were having our jungle breakfast moment, and the company of red howler monkeys made us awe-inspired while we were there. Blue and yellow macaws were the perfect decorations in the sky as they flew above us several times.
As soon as breakfast was over, we started a skiff ride upstream in order to find more about the Pacaya River. By exploring the riverside, we were surprised by some of the highlight species of the area: black collared hawks were found perching on trees, hoatzins made it perfect for photo opportunities, and birds of different kinds decorated the enormous trees found in the area. Once back on board Delfin II, we enjoyed a fun demonstration given by two of the staff members of the ship: origami towel folding.
Pacaya River is a mosaic of wildlife, and a comfortable skiff ride was the perfect way to begin exploration for the afternoon activities. The presence of cocoi herons, and neo-tropical cormorants made our experience astonishing. Red howler monkeys that were found in the trees traveling to their homes gave the biggest surprise of the afternoon, and a troop of white fronted capuchin monkeys made our experience unique for the afternoon exploration. Once we reached the farthest point of Pacaya River, we were found in the middle of a black water lake, and with the presence of pink river dolphins we enjoyed the Amazon plunge activity along with the company of a marvelous sunny sky above us.
Our journey was over once we started heading back Delfin II. The sky splattered with grey clouds and pink colors, a sign that tomorrow will be a great day, with more nature awaiting our arrival.
