We awoke to a thick layer of snow covering the decks. The view outside was everything we imagined Antarctica to be—and snowy weather didn’t dampen our enthusiasm. After breakfast, we headed to Paulet Island.

Once ashore, we were mesmerized by the 200,000 Adélie penguins that inhabit this small island in the Weddell Sea. Some of us hiked up to a lookout to get a better view of the area while others stayed on the shore, photographing huge ice chunks and the thousands of penguins returning to the colony after many days at sea, foraging for food.

After lunch, we explored Tay Point and were pleasantly surprised by the variety of wildlife we encountered there. What a fantastic day! We can’t wait for all the exciting adventures in store for us on our Antarctic adventure.
