Today was an incredible day in Southeast Alaska. Our morning started out at Pavlof Harbor where we offered a variety of activities including kayaking and a short walk to a waterfall. At the waterfall, there were several brown bears fishing for salmon and those who were on shore had wonderful views of these amazing animals. This was by far our best look at bears for the week!
In the afternoon, we set our sights for Chatham Strait and cruised with binoculars in hand in search of marine mammals. Moments after finishing lunch, killer whales were spotted on the horizon and we were able to approach within 100 yards of these incredible animals. After leaving the killer whales, we spotted another pod of whales – this time humpbacks. This group of humpback whales was bubble-net feeding, a rare and captivating behavior only seen here in Southeast Alaska.
