With a continuous streak of sun, our day in Petersburg started brightly. Facing a day jam-packed with activities, guests aboard National Geographic Quest had no shortage of things to do; dock tours, muskeg hikes, bike rides, and cultural tours were included in today’s adventures. At the same time, the dive team was able to slip away for a dive with calm waters and a slack tide.
Not far from where National Geographic Quest was docked lay an underwater realm filled with feather duster tube worms, large and abundant sunflower seas stars, a variety of nudibranchs, and other sessile organisms. The landscape below was quite different from the usual steep drop-offs of dark waters and rocky substrates seen at most Southeast Alaskan dive sites — but it was beautiful in its own way. This beauty was shared with guests when they returned on board with adventures fulfilled, at least for the day.
