Today began early, with an announcement at 5:30 a.m.: killer whales off the bow of the ship!  The orcas swam along the Thomas Bay bar, an area of shallow water where marine mammals can navigate much easier than can our little ship.

The town of Petersburg on Mitkof Island was our destination for the day. Activities included flightseeing over the Stikine Icefield; exploring the bog of Kupreanof Island; walking to fisheries, on photographic tours, and around the local hardware and bookstore. The day ended with a delicious Dungeness crab feast.
