After another busy, action-packed expedition, guests were treated to a rare late wake-up on board National Geographic Explorer. As the ship made its way toward the Westman Islands, we all headed outside to enjoy views of the newly formed volcanic island of Surtsey. Then we headed to Heimaey for afternoon activities. Before lunch, we experienced more spectacular views as we came into port with the help of our pilot.

The afternoon activities included a panoramic sightseeing tour of beautiful Heimaey which allowed us to take in some of the destruction caused by the 1973 eruption of Eldfell. Others opted to hike up the volcano for their own amazing views.
