Today was a full expedition day here aboard National Geographic Venture. In the morning, we anchored at Port Althorp and ventured out on hikes along the tidal zones and into the verdant temperate rainforest. One of the highlights was launching our kayaks and stand-up paddleboards into the calm bay surrounded by mountains covered in green and wispy clouds.
In the afternoon, we repositioned National Geographic Venture north to the Inian Islands. Here we set out on our Zodiacs to navigate around the swift currents of the dynamic waters found here at the confluence of the Pacific Ocean. Steller sea lions, sea otters, and bald eagles were the main players as we witnessed one of the rawest places to visit here in Southeast Alaska.
It was a truly unforgettable day and the encounters we experienced left us all with a much deeper appreciation for this remote and pristine part of the world.
