The sun rose this morning in the Galapagos Islands and our guests aboard the National Geographic Endeavour II awoke up to a new view, a new island, ready to make new memories. The island we visited today was San Cristobal, also known as Chatham. This is one of the oldest islands of this archipelago and it is also the administrative capital, but today we are visiting National Park areas starting at Punta Pitt. This olivine beach is home to a colony of sea lions, and as we disembarked on the beach young sea lions welcomed us from the water, inviting us to play with them.
Punta Pitt is also home to a variety of beautiful seabirds, including red-footed boobies, as well as Nazca boobies and blue-footed boobies. As we hiked along the trail in Punta Pitt, we had close encounters with blue-footed booby chicks and adults reminding us once again how tame animals in the Galapagos are, and showing us that it is possible to coexist in harmony through conservation.
As the sun set, we enjoyed a beautiful afternoon beach walk among sea lions at Cerro Brujo, a beautiful white sanded beach in San Cristobal Islands. Our guests aboard the National Geographic Endeavour II might be leaving the Galapagos Islands tomorrow, but the Galapagos will never leave them!
