We started our day with a pre-breakfast skiff ride to explore life along the river. We saw several plumbeous kites perched at the top of the canopy, pink river dolphins swimming around, and wattled jacanas feeding along the wetlands.

After breakfast, we went to explore a small village along an Amazon tributary. In a small settlement called San Jorge, we learned about the culture and lifestyle of the locals in the Amazon. We also learned about the different development projects that the Lindblad–National Geographic Fund is helping to implement among these local communities.

During the afternoon, we had the chance to explore Yarapa Creek. During our skiff ride, we encountered a large variety of birds, squirrel monkeys, wooly monkeys, and pygmy marmosets climbing up and down the trees. We got very lucky and spotted a small flock of paradise tanagers among the thick canopy. We waited until they moved out of the leaf cover in order to photograph their colorful bodies.

We also spotted several capped herons on the shore, as well as large flocks of great egrets feeding in the wetlands and flooded terrain of the Amazon high water season.

We finished our day with a beautiful sunset and good photographs to imprint our memories of the Amazon experience aboard the Delfin ll
