We came to Baja California for a journey called remarkable

Zodiacs to the shore and across the dunes we eagerly all did go

Our first day of capturing images and memories aplenty

How did I get this much sand stuck in odd places all over me?

Bouncing North to San Ignacio hoping for friendly gray whales

They didn’t disappoint and now we have new stories and tales

Rubbery soft gray whales, with dimples and singular hairs

Approaching our boats for a scratching, they always came in pairs

Belly flopping Mobula rays, squirting random from the sea

Can you catch one before splash down? Better check that shutter speed

Contortionists wearing whiskers were our watery sea lion friends

We joined them in their element, donning wet suits, masks, and fins

We lumped north from windy Estanque, for walks upon dry land

We found spiky puffs of smoke trees strewn amongst the arroyo sands

At San Pedro Martir bobitos feed on anxiety and despair

In our wake we left them, for dolphins catching serious air

The winds of the north were gusting; we needed to find a lee

Jack found shelter for us, behind lucky door number three

Shadowy polka-dot plankton feeders, with a scythe of a dorsal fin

He whooped and hollered with gusto when we threw Carlos and his camera in

Splashing sperm whales, triplet blue whales, remarkable sightings have been the rule

Contemplate the calendar and question, could this all be an April’s Fool?
