This morning National Geographic Endeavour II was anchored at Academy Bay. There were other ships around us, including several sailing boats from all over the world. The first activity of the day was a visit to the giant tortoise-breeding center; here our guests learned about the emblematic animals of the islands, a key program of the Galapagos National Park service. Afterwards there was time to spend in the town of Puerto Ayora, visit the local fishermen’s market and find wildlife all around the cozy town.

The rest of this day was full of activities. We went to visit a local farm, “El Trapiche,” where our guests tried the local products such as: organic brown sugar, organic coffee and sugar cane moonshine. A delicious meal was prepared at a local restaurant located in the highlands and the afternoon was spent around the giant tortoise natural reserve. The close encounters with the gentle giants were the highlights of an incredible expedition day!
