Tuesday is tortoise day in the Galapagos. We started our journey in Santa Cruz at the Charles Darwin Research Center where we had the opportunity to learn all about the science projects being done on the islands, and of course, enjoyed the baby tortoises in the breeding center. In the pens we were amazed by the tortoises “macho” displays, and to see a father of 800, Super Diego.
We then walked around town before taking a half an hour bus drive to the highlands where Don Adriano awaited us on his coffee and sugarcane farm. The process was ingenious and completely natural and we ended the visit with a moonshine toast.
After lunch at the Alquelarre farm we got to finally see the tortoises in the wild. Then we ended the visit with eye level contact with these mysterious giants.
Our expedition continues on and we cannot wait to tell you about our next adventure.
