As the ship pulled into Academy Bay, the rain poured down! May is a “transition” month, where we are transitioning from the warm, wet season, into the cool dry season. We were certainly warm and wet this morning; but by the time we disembarked, all had cleared, and the sun was threatening to shine through.
The entire day was spent focusing on giant tortoises: the Rearing Centre, operated by the Galapagos National Park, had many interesting stories to tell, from large to small. In the highlands, after a wonderful buffet lunch, we wandered the fields and encountered plenty of tortoises; wild, grazing, sleeping, grazing, mating, but mostly grazing.
