It takes a while for the view to sink in. Human civilization and all its paraphernalia, clustered in a bay, lights on shore if you got up early enough before daybreak. Boats bobbing at anchor.
But there are always two sides to the story, what humans do to help the other inhabitants on earth, and what they do to please or survive themselves, sometimes very different objectives, sometimes parallel.
Santa Cruz Island, although not the biggest island, has the largest human settlement in the archipelago. Although not the capital of the province of Galapagos, it is the site of the headquarters of the Galapagos National Park, the Charles Darwin Research Station, many hotels (of all economic ranges), restaurants (of all qualities), shops (of all varieties) and homes (of all styles).
Our day here was yet another eye-opening experience -- different, yet satisfying as well. We are always curious to see how others of our ilk live, and today was no exception!
