What an honor to write the first Daily Expedition Report from National Geographic Delfina. We start our first week exploring the Galapagos Islands, and today is our first full day. We disembarked on Santa Cruz Island to take our fearless guests to visit the Giant Tortoise Breeding Center where they are recovering the dynasty of these iconic reptiles that were endangered and on the brink of extinction. We also stopped in the town of Puerto Ayora.

In the second part of our journey, we explored in the highlands to see tortoises in the wild. We also visited a sugar cane and coffee plantation to learn about an early colonist family that settled here to farm, and heard about how they survived in this inhospitable place.

Later we stopped at Los Gemelos, a destination with a couple of volcanic formations and full of finches and mockingbirds. We had a wonderful adventure, experiencing the rain, sunshine, warm, and chilly weather. We experienced the magic of the Galapagos Islands.
