This morning the Sea Cloud offered us the mystic view of the Santorini caldera. The tender took us ashore to the port of Athinios where we started our exploration of the island. First we drove to Oia where we enjoyed a stroll in town enjoying the view, the white washed houses, and the blue domed churches. We then strolled all the way to the Venetian fortress overlooking the caldera.
From Oia we drove to the town of Firá to visit the amazing Museum of Prehistoric Thera, and then to the medieval town of Pyrgos for a very tasty lunch with a variety of appetizers.
The day continued with a visit of the unique archaeological site of Akrotiri, to uncover the secrets of the buried city that is known as the Greek Pompeii. Our guests considered this to be the highlight of the day.
We then returned to port to take the tender back to our vessel. A perfect day needs a perfect ending, and ours finished with a BBQ on board while we enjoyed the Santorini sunset.
