For our last day in the beautiful Cycladic Islands, we visited the charming island of Sifnos. We first traveled inland to the village of Kastro, passing steep, terraced hillsides dotted here and there with beehives, dovecotes, and small chapels. We strolled through the whitewashed village of Kastro as our guides, Kriton and Eleni, pointed out the town’s clever defenses against the pirates who ravaged the island in previous eras. Some ventured even further down the hill to see the quaint Church of the Seven Martyrs, perched on the edge of the sea.
Returning to the port town of Kamares, we visited the local pottery shops, some with ceramic artists busy at work. Some guests took advantage of the sparkling sandy beach of Kamares, enjoying one last dip in the refreshing Aegean Sea. Once back on board, we indulged in the famous Sea Cloud parmesan pasta wheel before an afternoon under sail. Our memorable trip concluded with the guest slide show, assembled by Photo Instructor Linda, and an elegant farewell dinner with Sea Cloud’s legendary five-star service.
