Our expedition landing this morning was in Tanaga Bay, on the southwest side of irregularly-shaped Tanaga Island. There were opportunities for a strenuous hike up a steep ridge and beyond, as well as exploration along the beautiful black sand beach. Many interesting curiosities were found during low tide along the expansive sandy shore, providing a variety of ways to use our imaginations and test and improve our photo skills. Glimpses of Tanaga volcano enhanced the backdrop and dense tundra vegetation covered the landscape above the high tide line. Birds observed included bald eagles, fox sparrows, black oystercatchers, and glaucous-winged gulls.
Cruising along the coast in the afternoon, more views were attained of Tanaga Volcano and the dramatic surrounding seascape. We enjoyed relaxing onboard, teatime, and staff presentations right up until recap and dinner.
