Our morning in Tenakee Inlet began with classic Lindblad Expeditions exploration. Expedition Leader Shawn Lucas was studying satellite imagery and topographic maps, despite no landing documentation, he decided we should explore Seal Bay, a small arm off Tenakee Inlet. Naturalists and guides found ideal locations for moderate hikes and pristine kayak conditions with abundant sea life.
Later in the morning, many guests opted for a Zodiac cruise. Rather than pushing deeper into Seal Bay, we saw a pod of killer whales near where the ship was anchored in the inlet. Following marine mammal viewing guidelines, we navigated the Zodiacs a safe distance from the whales. We were all surprised when the whales became curious and approached our boats.
Following lunch, National Geographic Quest navigated to Pavlov Harbor where we once again boarded Zodiacs to view coastal brown bears fishing for salmon in the waterfall. A special treat was to view the interactions of a mother bear and her three cubs.
